What chimney work costs in New Jersey
Typical 2026 ranges across the state, from a crown repair in Bergen County to a liner for a new boiler in Ocean County. Our inspection is free; cleanings are priced at that visit.
Start with the free inspection
Many New Jersey chimney companies charge for the first look, often somewhere between about $99 and $500 depending on the company and the level of inspection. Ours costs nothing. We check the chimney from the roof and from inside, photograph what we find and write down a price before anything is touched, so you can compare it with any other quote.
Gas fireplaces and appliance flues
| Service | Usual reason | Typical NJ range |
|---|---|---|
| Wood Stove Installation | Oil prices and long northwest winters | $3,000 – $8,000 |
| Fireplace Insert Installation | Open fireplace that wastes heat | $3,000 – $7,000 |
| Gas Fireplace Repair & Service | Dirty pilot, worn parts, skipped service | $150 – $1,000 |
| Gas Inserts & Gas Logs | Tired of hauling wood and ash | $2,000 – $8,000 |
| Wood-to-Gas Conversion | Want the fire without the wood | $1,500 – $8,000 |
Liners, caps, dampers and the F-370 check
| Service | Usual reason | Typical NJ range |
|---|---|---|
| Chimney Liners & Relining | Cracked tile, no liner, or wrong size | $1,500 – $5,000 |
| F-370 Chimney Check & Oil-to-Gas | New furnace, boiler or water heater | Free inspection |
| Chimney Caps & Chase Covers | Missing, rusted or blown-off cap | $250 – $850 |
| Damper Repair | Rust from rain coming down the flue | $150 – $450 |
| Firebox & Smoke Chamber | Heat cycles and decades of use | $300 – $2,500 |
Replacing a furnace, boiler or water heater, or switching from oil to gas, brings the F-370 chimney verification into the job. The check itself is part of our free inspection. When the old flue is too big or unlined for the new appliance, a properly sized liner usually runs $625 to $2,250, and the liner paperwork goes in with the permit.

Why the same job costs more in some houses
- Height and roof. A three-story Victorian in Montclair or Cape May takes staging that a ranch in Cherry Hill doesn't.
- Salt air at the Shore. Caps, chase covers and flashing near the ocean are often replaced rather than patched.
- Old unlined flues. Many pre-1940 chimneys need a liner before a new stove, insert or heating appliance is connected.
- Permits. Structural and fire-safety work goes through the town's construction office under the NJ Uniform Construction Code.
- Historic districts. Visible changes in towns like Cape May or Haddonfield may need approval before work starts.
